Founded in 1928 as a small engineering practice in Melbourne, Australia, GHD has grown into a diverse, employee-owned organization with over 11,000 people across 160 offices on five continents.

GHD faced unique challenges when selecting a new HCM system due to its global operations, project-based workforce, and highly specialized talent needs. The system had to support complex organizational structures, varying labor laws and compliance requirements across multiple countries, and the ability to manage mobile, remote, and cross-disciplinary teams. Additionally, GHD requires robust tools for talent acquisition, resource planning, performance management, and skills tracking to ensure the right expertise is matched to the right projects. Integration with existing ERP and project management tools is also critical to streamline workflows and maintain real-time visibility across both people and projects.

GHD undertook a complex RFP process including multiple countries and dozens of potential vendors. Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM emerged as the favorite with fully integrated Hire to Retire modules being exceptionally useful for a multi-national organization. Novamodus was chosen as the implementor, with experienced consultants and delivering best-in-class support to each of the countries the project includes.

The implementation included key modules such as HCM Core, Benefits Management, Absence Management, Time and Labor, Talent Acquisition, and Talent Management, rolled out across more than ten countries, including Canada, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. This unified, cloud-based solution enabled GHD to streamline HR processes, enhance visibility across regions, and better align its global talent strategy with its long-term business objectives—ensuring consistent, scalable support for its multidisciplinary teams around the world.
The project commenced in Canada in November 2017. Because of the scale, it was broken up into three phases with each one marking a completed implementation for a different region of the world. This often included working at odd hours relative to EST for months at a time. Novamodus however, has a “follow the sun” service policy which includes adapting our business hours to those of our clients.
GHD's final Oracle Cloud HCM transformation successfully went live in December 2019, spanning eleven countries across North America, Europe, and Asia. The project's success was powered by a shared commitment to excellence, with both teams fully invested in delivering a solution that met GHD's global needs. Novamodus played a pivotal role, going beyond standard delivery to ensure a smooth, impactful rollout. The HCM Practice Director personally travelled to seven locations within the U.S., France, Germany, and the Philippines to lead in-person training and testing sessions. This hands- on approach ensured local teams were fully prepared, engaged, and confident in the new system.
